David Kynaston Wins Brean 2008 !
Brean Stages Rally
26th - 27th January 2008
Rally report
David Kynaston with co-driver Andy Russell won the Brean Stages Rally for the 2nd year in a row in their incredibly quick Audi Quattro A3.
The event sponsored this year by UK Farm Finance consisted of 12 special stages providing a total of some 52 miles of competitive rallying over the weekend on the excellent sealed surface roads of the Brean Leisure Park. The end of day 1 (Saturday) with 6 special stages complete saw the Audi A3 of Dave Kynaston holding a slender 1 second lead over the Metro 6R4 of past 5 times winners of the event Karl Broad & Roger Grant.
Day 2 saw a number of changes on the leader board with Karl Broad amongst some other top runners from Day1 falling by the wayside with mechnical failures. This left David Kynaston who led the event from the off to bring his car home in 1st place with 2006 event winners Steve & Yvonne Furzeland slotting into the runner up slot this year in their Subaru Imprezza. The podium positions being completed with Dave Parnell & Pete Bold bringing their 2 wheel drive Ford Escort Mk1 into a superb 3rd place.

Other noteworthy drives included front running challengers Duncan Holder / Nick Reeves Metro 6R4 who suffered fuel starvation problems and ended day 1 down in 15th place. Fighting back on Sunday to bring the car home in a very creditable 7th Overall.
This 12th running of the Brean Stages rally attracted a vast crowd of spectators over the 2 days with mild ambient temperatures complete with sunny blue skies on Sunday adding to the fun and enjoyment factor of this very popular event.
A regular feature of the rally has been its support of a local charity or organisation, with a total of some £36,000 being donated to worthy causes over the past 11 years. For 2008 we are again supporting West Country Motorsport Rescue raising funds in support of this vital and important motor sport organisation.
Finally, we would like to acknowledge the support and assistance given to us by members of the local motor clubs and to the many marshals and officials who provide the rally with their invaluable support throughout the weekend.
